MRT-3 Araneta-Cubao Station

Missing Accessible Features

There is a general set of standards that people put when stations are labeled as accessible. The uncomfortable truth is, we’re not truly there yet. While certain features are universally implemented, others are universally overlooked. All MRT-3 stations lack tactile paving, LED screens for dynamic information, and other features that would help those with visual, and hearing disabilites.

More about the Station

The Araneta-Cubao station is connected to two malls, both of which do not have an accessible entrance / exit which removes the appeal of this station of wheelchair-dependent people entirely. There are two alternative entrances however, with both elevators having good continuity from entrance to station to platform. As well as standard MRT-3 signages, staff that are ready to assist PWDs, and audio announcements through their provided megaphone. This station is incredibly large with open spaces that rival Shaw Blvd, and makes traversing a nightmare if you’re alone since there are no proper way finders that direct you on which exit is which. If you plan to drop off on this station, be prepared of the roadblocks you’ll encounter as direct access to the malls is only possible if you don’t rely on ramps.
